In this chapter they are talking about the Greeks preparing for war. But both sides didn't want to go to war.
"As night was falling, both sides drew back appalled by the slaughter"(p.57).
Then Agamemnon was going around and looking whether everybody is preparing for war. But Achilles wasn't. So they were fighting. Palamedes(Agamemnon's Messenger) liked thatbecause he wanted to be the chief. Later on Achilles saw Cycnus and choked him with Cycnus's helmet's rope. " If you cannot bleed, you shall choke to death"(p.56).
